RGC/Uratex Group does its share in the continuing fight against the COVID-19 pandemic

As part of its service to the nation and unwavering support to humanitarian efforts in these trying times, the RGC/Uratex Group of Companies continues to do its share in the fight to alleviate the suffering of many Filipinos during this pandemic.

Just recently, the group lent a hand to the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) and the Metro Manila mayors’ humanitarian response to address the rapid spread of the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

In coordination with PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Senator Richard Gordon, the RGC/Uratex Group of Companies donated a total of 1,000 mattresses and two food trucks through RGC/Uratex Group of Companies Corporate PR Director Bigboy Cheng to the project being initiated by the PRC and the Metro Manila mayors.

The project aims to add isolation facilities that come with complete services for COVID-19 patients. The facilities will have food trucks and food kitchens that will offer food for indigent/marginalized members of society who are in the facilities for treatment. The facilities will also have shower rooms, rest rooms and portable toilets that will be replaced daily to keep it clean and sanitary, plus ambulances on standby that will bring patients to available hospitals, according to Sen. Gordon.

The donation of 1,000 mattresses was just an initial contribution by the Group to the overall effort. This week, the company turned over an additional 1,000 mattresses, for the use of the facilities under the project.

“We would like to thank Senator Gordon, the PRC, and the Metro Manila mayors for giving us the opportunity to assist in their effort to ease the congestion in hospitals by providing mattresses for their isolation facilities. I believe that through the cooperation of different sectors, we will finally be able to combat the threat of COVID-19,” said Cheng.

Providing assistance in several humanitarian activities has always been a part of the RGC/Uratex Group of Companies’ service to the nation. Last year, as the pandemic caused the issuance of several lockdowns and community quarantines, the Uratex/RGC Group provided support wherever it is necessary. It dedicated more or less 80 percent of its total Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) budget to COVID-19 response to show its #Malasakit and gratitude to the nation.

Among the items donated by Uratex to hospitals and quarantine facilities in 2020 were mattresses, cut-away foam for face shields, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for medical frontliners, “Prone Pillows,” a customized pillow designed to help alleviate breathing issues of COVID-19 patients under a mechanical ventilator. There were also donations of COVID-19 equipment, cash and relief packages to employees, subcontractors and promodizers, who are very much a part of the Uratex business.

Just recently, the company announced a vaccination program for all its employees within the Group. This is to assure that all its employees, and even their families, will remain protected against the SARS-CoV-2 virus and the COVID-19 disease as they continue to perform their work at the various Uratex plants nationwide.

“As a company, we cannot just stand and watch while the country suffers. We thought we had to do something. #Malasakit has always part of the company’s DNA, which started from its founder, Mr. Robert Cheng. We are just continuing his vision of a ‘people-first’ philosophy, especially during challenging times like this,” Cheng added.
