Kdrama Review: It's Okay Not to be Okay

I just finished Vincenzo last weekend but before I share my review on that, I am here to share one of the kdrama review I watched on Netflix that really hit the all of me, It's Okay Not To Be Okay. It became popular around second half of last year but I was just able to finish it recently.

The story is about Moon Gang Tae  (Kim Soo-hyun) who lives with his older brother Moon Sang-tae (Oh Jung-se) who has autism. They frequently move from town to town ever since Sang-tae witnessed their mother's murder. Gang-Tae works as a caretaker in a psychiatric ward at every place they settle in. While working in a hospital, he meets a famous children's book writer, Ko Moon-young (Seo Yea-ji), who is rumored to have antisocial personality disorder.

MY GENERAL VIEW
The series main story is about how Gang Tae is taking care of his older brother Sang Tae who has autism. This part is the one I can totally relate about because my eldest son has autism. Just like in the story, Gang Tae wishes for his brother to have this one true friend who will treat him and love him just as how he does. I also wish for the same thing. I wish that Railey will have a friend who can understand and take care of him. I remember last week, we were just standing outside our gate when Railey suddenly screamed. It's not new to me but when the kids outside heard him, they were laughing and talking about him. He's non-verbal but he's just starting to talk very few words which I, don't even understand.

MY THOUGHTS ON THE ACTORS
I have watched Kim Soo Hyun several times and I admit that I first watch it because I found out he's the actor in it. It was during the movie when I realized that the story was about Sang Tae's life with autism.
Kim Soo Hyun - I first watched him in Dream High, Moon Embracing The Sun, My Love From The Star , The Producers and I also have watched him in Thieves, a Korean movie with Jeon Ji Hyun. I like his character because even if it's so difficult to handle an autism brother, he was there to support him and even of he has thoughts of abandoning his brother, he still fought that thought. Taking care of an autism member of the family is very difficult. I think it's normal to have thoughts like that. What matters is how strong you face the ordeal.

Oh Jung-Se - I've watched him on countless dramas. Often times, he has supportive roles and cameo. I watched him recently on When The Camelia Blooms, The Good Detective and Hot Stove League. I like ow good he delivers his character as a man with autism.  I like how he gives off the emotions in his eyes when he feels bad on a certain situation. Just like his role, Railey usually screams if he feels bad, or anxious. Since he can't express whatever he wants to say, often time he would just cry or shout.

Seo Yea-Ji - I have watched Moorim and Hwarang but I can't really remember her role there. It was here on this series that she made a statement on me. I like her character here, together with his fashion and style. I like that she became a friend of Jung-Se

SCENES

I like the parts where Gang Tae shows his sacrifices for Sang Tae. He gives his selfless love and patience for his brother. Especially those times when Sang Tae would act out, he would respond with a hug and love. Just how us mothers do it in our autistic children. It's true love out there.

OST

So whenever I watched a kdrama, I always download the OST until the time I am done after the series. Sharing with you the album for it's OST.

I highly recommend this series, especially to those who don't know how the world of an autism goes. I like that this movie is advocating autism awareness and it was beautifully executed on the movie. So if you are looking for some series to overcome your boredom this quarantine, choosing this series would help.

  2. Isa sa maganda sa kdrama nApapakita talaga nila different view of life or society at napo portray nila ng mahusay bawat role nila, andun yung emotion na makakaconnect talaga yung mga viewers nila. Ang galing lang kase meron silang ganyan kdrama na nagpo promote ng awareness how to deal on people with autism na maiintindihan mo sila or how an autism be like. I check this kdrama and watch it definitely.
